Simon is a chartered engineer and chartered marine engineer with
many years experience of machinery operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
He is a fellow of the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (FInstNDT), and a member of the Institute of Marine Engineering Science &
He has actively participated in standardisation since 1986 and is a former chair of ISO TC108/SC5 – Condition Monitoring & Diagnostics
of Machines and chair of BSI GME 21/7 – Condition Monitoring of Machines, and convenor of ISO TC108/SC5 WG8 – Condition Monitoring Guidelines. Standards he has project managed include ISO 17359, ISO
13380 and ISO 10816-6. He has been closely involved in the development of ISO 18436-2 and the UK's accreditation initiative with BINDT. He is also accredited to the BINDT PCN Vibration Analyst Category IV.
A graduate of London University, he joined Rolls-Royce at their Industrial & Marine Gas Turbine division working on design and development of
marine gas turbine fuel systems. He then spent 8 years as a Marine Engineering Officer with the British Royal Navy, and on completion of his commission joined the vibration monitoring & analysis division of
Schenck. He moved from there to Manchester based consultancy Wolfson Maintenance. After 15 years with WM, Simon set up SpectrumCBM Ltd.
In July 2007 Simon took up an appointment as Director of Training Services at AVT. In July 2014, Simon parted company with AVT, and continues as
MD of SpectrumCBM Ltd, and maintains close relationships with selected organisations including HPConsulting Services Ltd, Metron Oil & Gas Ltd, and SEV IVEPE in Greece.
